Facebook removing API access from the MessageMe application has done very little, if anything, to slow the messaging apps growth.
In a blog post on Tuesday the company announced that it now offers service to more than 1 million users and sends 500 notifications per second.
MessageMe also recently raised $1.9 million from a group of popular investors that includes, True Ventures, First Round Capital, Google Ventures, SVAngel, Resolut.vc, Andreessen Horowitz, Greylock Partners and Social+Capital Partnership, among others.
MessageMe believes it can overpower Facebook Messaging, Apple iMessages and other competitors by creating a system that is better and faster when it comes to pulling in doodles, videos and other multimedia types.
If you have not used MessageMe the program allows users to pull in Google search images, music from iTunes and videos from YouTube.
Last week Facebook pulled API access from MessageMe, a move that forced the company to turn off its “Find Friends” feature from Facebook accounts. Facebook noted that MessageMe competes with its own product line and therefore was not allowed to maintained API access.
The Facebook move appears to have given MessageMe a lot of national attention which has grown the network.
MessageMe benefits from the ability to pull contacts from a users address book, thus relying less on Facebook to find contacts.
