Infamous Fyre Festival Cancelled, Rich Kids Stranded

Frye Festival

You probably remember us covering the announcement of the upcoming Fyre Festival. Instagram posts featuring supermodels like Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner promised a weekend of luxury and entertainment with some of the best names in music. The festival was a not-to-be-missed event.

However, the party of the year has been cancelled, stranded tons of its potential attendees in the Bahamas. And nothing is like it seems.

Promises of gourmet food resulted in bread and cheese. The private island was also home to a Sandal’s resort (not exactly private). Private cabanas were just stacks of mattresses and tents laying in heaps.

With VIP ticket packages going for more than $100,000, we can understand why festival goers are a little upset. Wealthy teens flocked to Miami and the Bahamas for the time of their life. However, the day before, they received emails explaining the even would be postponed.

The problems seemed to start after a sudden cancellation by headlining act, Blink 182. Then many guests found themselves dealing with flight issues and stranded on Miami tarmacs. The handful that were able to get to the concert venue were greeted with incomplete accommodations and broken promises.

Then, when they tried to leave the location more problems ensued.

Many of the attendees explained there were many red flags as the Fyre Festival got closer, like the event organizers going dark on social media a couple of days before the event was set to begin. An email sent later that day explained the snafu a little more:

“Due to circumstances out of our control, the physical infrastructure was not in place on-time and are unable to fulfill on that vision safely and enjoyably for our guests. At this time, we are working tirelessly to get flights scheduled and get everyone off of Great Exuma as quickly as possible. We ask that guests currently on-island do not make their own arrangements to get to the airport. We are working to place everyone on complimentary charters back to Miami today. This process has commenced.”

Fyre festival organizers explain that those that bought tickets will get a refund. However, many aren’t holding their breath.

“I’m not banking on [refunds] because they’ll probably just declare bankruptcy,” one festival goer said.
