So the rumors we have always heard about the old “casting couch” in Hollywood are true. Women who are flirtier and more sexually open to higher-up’s advances seem to be the ones who land the roles, whilst an actress who refuses to lower herself to that depth of depravity suffers for it. In this case, I am talking specifically about the amazingly talented Lena Heady who plays Cersei Lannister on Game of Thrones, who finally came right out and admitted that is how Hollyweird works:
There’s a real pressure on women to be beautiful and skinny. When I was in my twenties and doing a lot of audition tapes in the States, a casting director told me: ‘The men take these tapes home and watch them and say, ‘Who would you f—?’ I’ve never played the game of going in [to auditions] and flirting; I’ve never done it and I’m very happy I didn’t.
Kind of drops your jaw to hear it just laid out like that. It is also good to know that not all major productions run that way (obviously because she is on G.O.T and doing quite well for herself). But it makes you think about how many actresses have had to endure that up to this point, it is a rather sickening thought.
Also, would YOU mess with this woman? I sure wouldn’t.
Hopefully her coming out about it will raise awareness and lower the threat level for young actresses just trying to achieve their dreams without having to pull up their dresses in the process.
