This should be interesting- location-based, deal-offering mobile game Foursquare and group-buying app Groupon are reportedly hooking up, according to “several sources.”
AllThingsD first reported the liaison between the two niche services, and if it takes off, the collaboration could be hugely beneficial to both services and bridge a big gap in each. While Foursquare has a robust selection of deals, that aspect is not the main reason most users participate in the game. And Groupon often has a good selection of offers, but lacks the stickiness lure inherent with Foursquare.
No official word has come from either company on a partnership, but the evidence is credible. AllThingsD speculates:
The arrangement is likely to see Groupon deals targeted to Foursquare users’ check-ins. Mobile app users who tell their friends that they’re in the vicinity of a venue offering a discount are obviously prime customers.
As an avid Foursquare Superuser and occasional Groupon customer, I’d certainly use both services more if there were some crossover. Do you think a Foursquare Groupon pairing will enhance participation on both services? Do you use either or both regularly?
