Social business and the art of buying sh** online might owe everything to Pizza Hut, according to a controversial tweet posted this week.
On September 9, Pizza Hut claimed that the first online purchase ever was a pizza, and that it was theirs. This happened all the way back in 1994, probably before you were born (just kidding, but really, we don’t have demographic data on our readers).
FACT: the first-ever online purchase was a Pizza Hut pizza in 1994. #90skids https://t.co/oSbHu2qH0J pic.twitter.com/VFl3LFzoht

“Uhhhh lol cool story bro, but first ever? Doubt it,” you say. Well we doubted it too, so we did some digging. According to Hobbes’ Internet Timeline (probably the best record of Internet history out there), Pizza Hut’s claim is 100 percent legit.
So next time you eat at Pizza Hut, remember that they’re not just purveyors of grease-injected pizza pies at bargain prices … damn it, they’re Internet pioneers.
