First Brexit, Now Could There Be A Texit?

Texit

If you’ve missed today’s headlines then you might just now be hearing about the UK’s vote to leave the European Union. As the landmark decision began trending on social media, it began to being called ‘brexit,’ a mixture of the words ‘Britain’ and ‘exit.’ The BBC has published a up-to-date explanation of what it all means in laments’ term.

However, it seems the brexit has inspired yet another group to strive to leave the European Union. “The Texas Nationalist Movement has been trying to piggyback on Britain’s vote for leaving the European Union for several weeks, arguing the two movements are basically the same,” reported Vocativ.

Of course, we have heard the attempts of a Texas succession, but this the newly-coined ‘texit’ is making a quite the impression. More than 6,000 people have tweeted their support for #texit since the early hours of this morning.

“The vast majority of the laws, rules and regulations that affect the people of Texas are created by the political class or unelected bureaucrats in Washington,” said Daniel Miller, president of the TNM.

The Texas Nationalist Movement Facebook page has more than 200,000 likes and has changed their cover photo to express their support for #texit.

In fact, the trend is catching on so much that the Texas Governor, Greg Abbot had to make a comment about it.

“This is something going globally,” Abbott told Fox News, according to Patrick Svitek. “It comes down to state sovereignty.”

While it is highly doubtful that Texas will ever leave the European Union or succeed from the United States. However, it is extremely interesting to see how this movement could become a worldwide trending topic.
