Facebook Begins Offering Android Beta Testing Program

Facebook Beta For Android

The Facebook beta program has been announced for the Google Android mobile OS.

The new beta program is asking developers to play with future releases of Facebook on Android. The company will then use that feedback to improve its applications before updates are offered.

The Facebook for Android Beta Testing program has been set up to pull in as much performance data and feedback as possible.

While Facebook would love feedback from developers the Android beta testing program is open to all Android device owners. All users need to do is download the updates and report bugs as they occur.

Facebook does warn that the new beta program will likely feature a “less stable” version of Facebook Mobile.

Facebook product manager Ragavan Srinivasan in a blog post on Thursday said, “Android’s reach allows us to get Facebook out to more people throughout the world, and the diversity of devices and networks means more affordable smart phones for more people.”

Srinivasan continued:

Facebook is the most-downloaded app in the Play Store, so we need to make sure it works for everyone, no matter their amount of RAM, network conditions, or version of Android they might be using. Factors like data costs and network speeds are especially important to users, and we want to make sure we’re always optimizing their experiences. With so many use cases to solve, testing becomes crucial to ensuring positive, consistent experiences across Android.

Facebook requires users to sign up with Facebook and Google Groups in order to participate. Users must also navigate a few Google Play steps to get started.
