Facebook chat rooms are currently being developed and if they become a reality it could mean an entirely new way to communicate with your Facebook friends.
Facebook currently only allows for one-on-one chats and Facebook Messenger provides multi-user conversations.
The new chat rooms will differ in that they will reportedly be formed inside a users News Feed and will be open for anyone to join without the need for an invitation.
Users will reportedly be able to set privacy restrictions and conversations will only be text based when the program launched. There is the possibility that Facebook may allow for photos to be uploaded in the future. Facebook recently began allowing users to comment on posts with photo uploads.
While the Facebook chat rooms seem to mimic Facebook Groups they are said to be better structured and appropriate for kids. Facebook is also believed to be structuring the system to increase active discussion threads throughout Facebook.
Facebook hasn’t opened up about the new alleged system which means there is no release date or further details to report at this time.
In the meantime Google+ Hangouts could soon have increased competition, especially if Facebook chat rooms pop up with video chat capabilities in the future.
