Facebook Adds Gift Purchasing To Mobile Apps

Facebook Gifts rolling out soon

In an effort to increase mobile revenues, Facebook has added the ability to buy presents for other users.

The new app is called Facebook Gifts, and allows users to purchase physical gifts for other Facebook users without needing to know the recipient’s address. Buyers can choose from over 100 retailers, and can alert the gift’s receiver on their timeline or through a private message. Users can see a preview of the gift, a feature that allows them to make last-minute adjustments, including the exchange of the gift for another item of equal value. The friend enters their own address, and the gift is delivered within days.

The Karma-powered service works with Facebook’s mobile app, and might help increase the social network’s mobile revenues, something that they have been trying to do lately.

Facebook Gifts will be available for use first in the US.
