With the news of Kim Kardashian’s Selfie book coming out, it seems as if the ‘selfie’ obsession is at an all time high. Even the socialite has confessed to being addicted to selfies. But could the selfie fad be turning us all into narcissists or maybe, something even more dangerous. Do you suffer from ‘selfie syndrome?’

This poster explains how getting that perfect snapshot is affecting the way we perceive ourselves.

“Narcissistic personality disorder involves a preoccupation with self and how one is perceived by others. Narcissists pursue gratification from vanity and the admiration of their own physical and intellectual attributes.”

Have you ever caught yourself checking to see if your latest Instagram photo had any new likes or comments and found yourself a little bummed when you found out you hadn’t? That’s how narcissism begins. For example, Miss Kardashian is the poster child for narcissism. She has made a living off of her looks.

There are several signs of narcissism, as seen on the above graphic. It is crazy to think that social media is playing such a influential role in our psychiatric health.

So next time you snap that selfie, stop and ask yourself, “Why?”
