Cryptocurrency is spreading like wildfire these days. Everyone wants to know what it is and how it works. The craze has gone to such a level that almost 42% of the top universities of the world have at least one class that is based on blockchain technology or cryptocurrencies. This is a report that was recently published on August 28 by the U.S. crypto exchange Coinbase. They went on to publish the news on their official blog and it is something that the crypto industry should be proud of.
The proof that the news is not a fake was established when it was found that along with Coinbase, another survey company named Ruinously also was a part of the research. The two companies jointly reviewed the courses of more than 50 international universities and over 675 US college students. It was found that amongst the 172 classes that were reviewed during this research, 15% of the classes offered economics, business departments, law, and finance while only 4% were into social science departments.
Universities teaching crypto concepts
There is no denying that crypto is a hot topic and if the tricks of the trade are followed safely, investors can earn thousands every month. The universities have already taken a step to make sure that students are aware of what crypto is. Their decision to bring crypto-related and blockchain technology related courses prove that students are eager to know about digital currency from the basics and not just collected information from the web and then invest in the currencies only to incur huge losses.
The US universities have also introduced lessons that would offer a detailed knowledge of Bitcoins and how trading applications like the Bitcoin Loophole Crypto App works. Apart from the US, there are five universities out of 18 outside the US that offer lessons on crypto and blockchain topics. Some of the elite universities like Cornell and Stanford University has blockchain related courses in their syllabus. They are just ranked 9 and 10 respectively on the list of universities that offer these topics. The National University of Singapore and the University of Pennsylvania also have similar courses and they are ranked 5th and 6th respectively.
Surprisingly enough, a renowned computer science professor from Berkeley University, Dawn Song, informed Coinbase that her course on “Blockchain, Cryptoeconomics, and the Future of Technology, Business and Law” became an instant hit and has become one of the most popular courses ever. Instructors now must turn away students because of the lack of space. More than 200 students apply for this course every year but only 70 can attend the course because the university does not have room for more than 70 students.
Another report by Cointelegraph shows that a $20 million blockchain research grant was donated to the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Business School because they wanted to make students learn about the concept and how the market worked. Turkey too had its first university that offered blockchain research center to ensure that the technology reached far and wide and people became self-sufficient by using the technology.
