Comics For Kids: Nonprofit Shares Comics With Kids Who Just Ask [Twitter Spotlight]

Comics For Kids homepage

For our first Twitter Spotlight piece, we’re taking a look at Comics For Kids, a Mississippi-based non-profit that simply gives comic books to kids who ask for them.

We’re starting a new series here at SocialNewsDaily (we currently publish Twitter Reacts and Hoaxed) called Twitter Spotlight. It focuses on lesser-known Twitter personalities, non-profits, communities, etc. with a few thousand followers that we think deserve a little more recognition.

For our first entry, we’re focusing on Comics For Kids, a non-profit that has given over 3,000 comics to kids who want them. They’ve been around for over two years and have just north of 2,000 followers on Twitter.

Their biggest thing is an annual Halloween event where they host a huge giveaway. Last year, they gave away 1,000 comics, 300 coloring books, and tons of candy to about 700 kids. They plan to do double that this year.

I reached out to Comics For Kids and spoke to Michael Whitehead about their mission. He explained his non-profit like this:

“I love comics and want to put them into the hands of kids that don’t have Internet, video games etc. Comics have made me a better person, they taught me lessons about life, love and just how to be a better person.”

If you want to support Comics For Kids, you can check out their website, their Facebook page and their Twitter handle @comics4_kids. You can also email Michael at thecomicsforkids@gmail.com to find out how you can help.
