Halloween is just around the corner, and this year witches appears to be doing something extra special for the occasion.

A Brooklyn-based coven are inviting people join them in hexing Supreme Court Judge Brett Kavanaugh on Saturday 20th October. Taking place at the Catland Book Store, Bushwick, it costs $10 a ticket to take part in the spell-casting session. According to the Facebook event, 1.4K people are hoping to attend, with another 13K interested. But sadly, the event has already sold out with four days still to go.

On the eventbrite page, the coven say they plan to curse the recently sworn-in Kavanaugh, along with “all rapists” and “the patriarchy which emboldens, rewards, and protects them.”

Although the new chief justice is the prime focus of the hex, he’s not the ritual’s only target, with the group telling attendees to “bring your rage and and all of the axes you’ve got to grind.”

Described as Brooklyn’s “premier metaphysical boutique and event space,” this event isn’t the first of its kind for Catland Books. Past events include a gathering to curse Donald Trump and an annual “hex your ex” service on Valentine’s Day.

Dakota Bracciale, co-founder of the store, is the chief organiser of the event. She believes the spell-casting ceremony is not only a significant act of protest, but a way to the bring the left-leaning community together – even if some attendees don’t actually believe in magic.

Bracciale told The Guardian: “The whole thing is going to be really cathartic, whether you believe it or not.

“The right has churches but the left is scattershot.

“The left is where you’re going to find atheists, secularists, humanists, people who follow non-traditional religions.

“So how are you going to get all of us together in times of trouble? That’s what we’ve been doing.”

Unsurprisingly, the event has caused outrage amongst conservatives and fundamentalist Christians online, but Bracciale and her coven don’t seem too concerned by the backlash.

She added: “If you’re going to be these awful bullies, you have to understand someone is going to punch you back and it might as well be a bunch of witches from Brooklyn.”
