Barack Obama To Meet With Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Other Tech Execs

Barack Obama

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg published a post last week saying he spoke with Barack Obama over privacy concerns, and a new report claims the two will meet.

According to Politico, Obama is scheduled to sit down with other tech executives as well, including Google chairman Eric Schmidt.

The meeting, which was announced Thursday night and taking place today, is said to be over “the issues of privacy, technology, and intelligence.”

The White House did not reveal who all would be attending the meeting, and Google, Yahoo, Facebook and other tech companies declined to comment.

Marissa Mayer, CEO of Yahoo, was reportedly set to attend, but business got in the way.

“Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer — who attended a meeting with Obama and other tech leaders to talk surveillance in December — was among the CEOs invited to Friday’s session. But she ultimately couldn’t make the trip on short notice, industry sources said.”

News of such an important meeting comes just two days after an NSA lawyer claimed that tech companies were fully aware of surveillance program PRISM despite denying any knowledge.

Facebook disputed the claims yesterday, saying “The suggestion that we were misleading the public is frustrating and untrue.”
