The NSA’s top lawyer communicated to a privacy committee on Wednesday that companies such as Yahoo, Google, Facebook, Apple, and Microsoft were all aware about the NSA surveillance program PRISM.
This contradicts statements made by the tech companies earlier, when Google’s chief legal officer David Drummond headlined a post ‘What the…” and Zuckerberg referred to the press reports as ‘outrageous’.
At the time both Page and Zuckerberg denied that the government had direct access to their servers, which goes against The Washing Post news that reported government agencies were tapping directly into their central servers.
NSA general counsel Rajesh De says the US technology companies were fully aware of the surveillance agency’s mass collection of data.
A week ago Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook said he called up President Barack Obama to voice his concerns about the harm the government is potentially doing to future of the Internet.
Companies such as Google and Facebook have been requested that the government be ‘more transparent’ referring to the requests for data and increased security measures.
Rajesh De has also stated that the NSA does not have permission to search for Americans’ data from communications that are taken directly off the Internet.
