Are you willing to send a Tweet that automatically purchases certain products on your behalf? That is the idea behind American Express and its Tweet to buy program.
AmEx is taking advance of the already running Card Sync service which enabled merchants to announce discounts and special offers on Twitter via special hashtags.
The new program is starting with special deals from Sony, Urban Zen, Amazon, and others.
To use the program users must sign up for a Card Sync account and then link in their Twitter account and purchasing information. Card holders then follow @AmericanExpress on Twitter. AmEx is tweeting special hashtags for various purchasable items. The first sales items include:
Amazon Kindle Fire HD for $150 (normally $199) and the Sony Action Cam plus a waterproof headband mount for $180 (normally $210 for both items)
AmEx gift cards are also available by tweeting #BuyAmexGiftCard25. Customers who take advantage of that offer today can receive a $25 gift card for just $15.
If you are using Card Sync with your AmEx card you can simply tweet the special hashtag. AmEx will then send a special confirmation tweet that users have 15 minutes to confirm in order to fulfill the purchase.
By engaging with users via hashtags American Express will receive plenty of publicity through increased engagement. By offering special discounted to customers the program becomes a win-win for everyone involved.
