A police officer in Portland, Maine captured something breathtaking while he was out looking for speeders. The department shared a video on Facebook with a tongue-in-cheek message that I’m sure UFO enthusiasts will take a little too seriously.
“You never know what you are going to see on duty. Sgt. Farris was looking for speeders while parked in front of the central fire station and was able to observe some visitors “from away”….far away. The meteor (or alien spaceship) was caught on camera at approximately 0050 hours. Let’s hope the visitors are friendly. They could just be some of Stephen King’s friends on their way to visit him. Whom ever they are I’m sure we could win them over with a whoopie pie.

Officer Farris wasn’t the only person to see the fireball that night. According to the American Meteor Society:
The AMS has received 425 reports so far about a fireball event over Northeastern US on May 17th 2016 around 12:50am EDT (4:50 UT). The fireball was seen primarily from Maine but witnesses from Vermont, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Ontario (Canada) and Québec (Canada) also reported the event.
Social media users had their own theories about the mysterious fireball. “It’s Doc and Marty returning from the future!” writes Matty Day.
“We all know it was aliens,” says Dupont Craig.
“Well,” laments David Dahlgren, “if it was an alien spaceship, it’s pretty crispy now.”
