You’re Doing It Wrong: Facebook And Sex A Perfect Mix For Some Couples

Some people just can’t get put down their phones. They use it while they’re driving, they use it to take pictures during dinner, and, apparently, some people can’t even turn away from their Facebook pages while their in the throes of passion.

Well, maybe “throes of passion” is a little much. Because let’s be honest, if you’re on Facebook during sex you’re probably not enjoying it too much.

According to a new study from the scientifically-minded group at Durex Condoms, 5% of respondents said that they had used Facebook during sex. Durex didn’t provide the sample size or the survey method, but that doesn’t mean that the survey should be ignored.

The fact of the matter is that Facebook, as well as Twitter and Instagram, is slowly taking over our lives.

A study from 2013 found that the average American spent about 3 hours per day on social media. If you factor in work, commuting, cooking, eating, and binge watching The Good Wife on Netflix, well, it looks like there’s no other option but to use Facebook during sex.

But don’t worry. There’s hope for your sex life and, well, the earth.

Durex is encouraging all sexual active Facebook users to put down their computers for later this month for Earth Hour.

Aurore Trepo, marketing director, Durex USA, said: “Earth Hour is a great, yet rare excuse for couples to give each other their undivided attention. With over 80 years bedroom experience, Durex knows physical touch and intimacy are extremely important for feeling connected in your relationship … And with recent survey research revealing our smartphones get more attention than our partners, we want to encourage all of America to turn off and get turned on for March 29.”
