Nearly one year after filing a second lawsuit against Facebook and company CEO Mark Zuckerberg Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss have dropped their lawsuit which nearly reached the U.S. Supreme Court.
In 2008 the twins settled their initial lawsuit with Facebook for a sum estimated to be around $200 million, however they later decided that Zuckerberg and his Facebook team wildly underestimated the value of Facebook stock and once again filed suit.
The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals didn’t believe the case held merit, noting:
“At some point, litigation must come to an end. That point has now been reached.”
The Winklevoss Twins disagreed and filed the suit with the U.S. Supreme Court, a case that was not likely to be heard.
The twins originally sued Zuckerberg by claiming he stole their social network idea when they asked him to create ConnectU while Zuckerberg was still attending Harvard University, an argument that was highlighted in the blockbuster hit The Social Network.
