Wes Welker: NFL Drug Policy Is Flawed

Wes Welker has been suspended four games for violating the NFL’s performance enhancing drug policy.

Welker tested positive for amphetamines but the Denver Broncos receiver insists that he is innocent. In an email to the Denver Post, the NFL player said that he was “shocked” by the news and that he believes the league’s drug policy is flawed.

Welker said: “I want to make one thing abundantly clear: I would NEVER knowingly take a substance to gain a competitive advantage in any way,” the email said. “Anyone who has ever played a down with me, lifted a weight with me, even eaten a meal with me, knows that I focus purely on what I put in my body and on the hard work I put in year round to perform at the highest levels year-in and year-out.”

NFL.com reports tested positive for amphetamines back in May. The wide receiver has already filed an appeal but the NFL has rejected the plea.

The news received a mixed reaction on Twitter. Some fans stood by Welker’s side saying that they believed him. Others called on the Broncos receiver to stop lying and admit that he took drugs. While others claimed that Welker probably took Molly during his ridiculous trip to the Kentucky Derby.

Do you think Wes Welker knowingly took performance enhancing drugs? Do you think he was slipped a molly at the Kentucky Derby?
