Watch these Iconic Works of Art Meet the Hitachi Magic Wand

Hitachi Wand

Anyone who ever said mixing fine art with fine orgasms is impossible is lying. This is taking the term “artgasm” to an entirely new level, and we’re loving it.

The Hitachi Magic Wand Throughout Art History is one tumblr account art-lovers and sex-positive advocates shouldn’t miss. The creator of the site, who wishes to stay anonymous, explains that the goal of the site is to celebrate and destigmatize the female orgasm masturbation by marrying images of iconic paintings with the Hitachi Magic Wand, an equally iconic and well-loved (pun-intended) sex toy.

“The blog combines two things that many love: fine art and the Hitachi Magic Wand,” he shares with Mic in an email. “Both of these have and continue to change lives.”

If by “change lives”, you mean “turn women into bad-ass mofo queens who are classy af”, then sign us up for a wand.

The Hitachi Magic Wand first started out with rather innocent beginnings, as it was first marketed as nothing else than a back massager. It was only by the 1970s that sex educator Betty Dodson popularized it as a clitoral stimulator, and opened the floodgates to pleasure and self-satisfaction for many, many women in the ages to come.

May women may keep mum about using self-pleasure or sex toys, but the numbers certainly don’t lie. A 2009 study from the Indiana University shows that 53% of women use sex toys for self-stimulation.

“I think [the Magic Wand] is a huge part of more lives than many will admit,” the creator continued. “It’s almost a sacred object in and of itself, a cultural touchstone that doesn’t get a lot of mainstream airplay even though there must be a billion of them out there.”

“So it deserves to be elevated to a higher level, which putting it together with fine art does.”
