Vine is celebrating one year on the internet today with a collection of videos that will make you laugh so hard you cry, marvel at some wonders of the world, and go, “Aww!”
Co-founder Colin Kroll explained that the goal of Vine was to make it easier for people to find, watch, and share videos using their smartphones. He added in an email to USA Today, “We had no idea what people would do with it, and every day we’re blown away by the creativity, comedy and momentous events we see captured on Vine.”
Since it first launched, Vine users have created comedy skits, explored the world, created artsy loops, and inspired the world. The app service has even been used by President Obama to thank Batkid for saving “Gotham.” It even earned the title of the fastest-growing app of 2013 worldwide.
That growth has been helped by Twitter’s built-in platform, helping Vine grow into a mature social network in just a year’s time. The next step? Kroll explained to Tech Crunch, “This year, we’re really focused on making it easier to discover those videos and find new accounts.”
Given Vine’s success in its first year, as well as its guidance under Twitter, we expect it to grow even more in the next year. Until then, we leave you with our favorites from Vine’s collection of videos celebrating its first birthday.
