President Barack Obama made plenty of friends and enemies today when he revealed his proposals to reduce gun-related crime in the country. Whether you’re for or against, most can agree that some of Obama’s proposals make pragmatic sense, while others constitute some of the most extreme gun regulation the US has ever seen on the federal level.
But we’re not here to politicize, we’re here to report. Here’s what Twitter is saying about President Obama’s gun control proposals:
In Support:
I had to get a background check to volunteer in my daughters’ school. I support requiring background check for gun purchases. #NowIsTheTime

“@barackobama: “Finally, Congress needs to help rather than hinder law enforcement as it does its job.” Amen, let the LEO’s do their job! — Christen Gause (@Cgause) January 16, 2013
More ILLEGAL guns means more crime. Which is why I also agree with Obama pushing for tougher penalties on gun trafficking. — Joe Sica (@JoeSica) January 16, 2013
The right to bear arms was put into place back when it took 5 minutes to get off one shot. Now you can slaughter a shopping center in 5 min. — Brad (@brvdmvthy) January 16, 2013
I think everyone complaining about excessive gun control should go exercise their right to bear arms and join the military. — James Moore (@JamesThomas86) January 16, 2013
We demand it! Pls make this happen “@barackobama: “The only way we can change is if the American people demand it.” —President Obama” — Robin (@Lynnie119) January 16, 2013
Very Much Opposed:
@wtkr3 And, King Obama, the only demand we have is that you read and obey the Constitution.

So the most pro-abortion president in U.S. history wants more #guncontrol to save the lives of innocent children? Oh, okay.
— Miss Conservative (@Conserv_Miss) January 16, 2013
It says the right to bear arms. Not the right to bear arms with these limits and exceptions. #BringBackTheConstitution — Shoemaker (@Schumacherryan) January 16, 2013
Obama said tougher gun laws for those who are going to buy guns to sell to criminals.Like the Obama Administration did w/ #FastAndFurious — Nat Shupe (@NatShupe) January 16, 2013
My point: proposed Assault Weapons Ban is superficial and ineffective. Until someone puts handguns on the table, it won’t be a serious talk.
— Joe Scannell (@JosephPScannell) January 16, 2013
The 2004 Assault Weapons ban had no effect on crime rate. Each year more people are killed by hammers then by assault rifles.
— Ol’ Bobby Maloof (@rmaloof3) January 16, 2013
The assault weapons ban is catnip to politicians. It gives the appearance of doing something big even if its effects are wholly cosmetic. — stimer (@scottstimer) January 16, 2013
Here is how gun control works: 1.registration 2.confiscation 3. extermination. Look it up if you don’t believe me. — Karen Doe (@KarenDoe50) January 16, 2013
Obama’s Thoughts:
“The most important changes we can make depend on congressional action. They need to bring these proposals up for a vote.”
— Barack Obama (@BarackObama) January 16, 2013
Where do you stand on President Obama’s gun control proposals? Did you tweet about it today using the hashtag #guncontrol?
