If you heard news today that Twitter will own your photos it’s time to take a deep breath and relax, it turns out that information is 100% false.
Rumors of Twitter photo ownership started today when Courtney Boyd Myers at The Next Web asked Photobucket CEO Tom Munro who owned the users work, to which he responded “The images will be owned by Twitter.”
That news didn’t feel right to Twitter users and was thankfully incorrect. Righting the wrong created by that comment, Twitter’s Sean Garrett quickly took to Tweeting:
@TVWatchtowner @bradmccarty What’s yours is yours – you own your content on Twitter. Your photos will be part of that content.
Garrett later went on to add “Twitter’s rules, not Photobucket’s.”
In case that wasn’t clear enough here it comes again: If you upload and save photos through the Twitter/Photobucket partnership you will be under Twitter’s content rules which means no one but you will own your photos.
