Twitter announced a big acquisition on Monday but this time it wasn’t a company or a technology platform. Twitter has hired former Google VP and General Counsel Nicole Wong.
Nicole spent more than seven years with Google and before that time she was a partner at Perkins Coie LLP.
Some analysts believe the Wong hire is meant to signal the start to a Twitter IPO filing.
Nicole Wong joins a number of former Googler’s at Twitter, employees who include general counsel Alex MacGillivray and hire associate counsel Amy Keating.
Wong made the announcement on Twitter:
New nest. Excited to #jointheflock. twitter.com/nicolewong/sta…

General Counsel Alexander Macgillivray explained to TechCrunch how the legal team works with the whole of Twitter:
We’re much more integrated into the fabric of the company. We’re thinking about goals at the same time we’re figuring out how to implement those goals.
Do you think the hiring of Nicole Wong signals an upcoming Twitter IPO launch?
