Twitter Expanding Promoted Accounts On Mobile Timelines

Twitter

Twitter released a new mobile app design last week, and today announced that Promoted Accounts on mobile are open to all advertisers worldwide.

Similar to Promoted Tweets which hit mobile timelines in February 2012, Promoted Accounts encourage users to follow a certain account.

On the desktop, Promoted Accounts appear under “Who to follow” in the sidebar, and the example pictured above is what they’ll look like on mobile:

From AllThingsD writer Mike Isaac:

I’m told that ad load will stay the same, however, so you won’t be seeing a whole bunch more advertising in your Timeline from here on out. I expect you’ll start seeing the units in your main mobile timeline pretty soon.

Twitter reminded advertisers they’ll only be charged when someone actually follows their account, and users can expect to see more Promoted Accounts on Android and iOS timelines.
