Twitter acquired two companies focused around social TV analytics last month, and today added social data company Gnip to its team for an undisclosed sum.
Gnip is one of the largest providers of social data, and first partnered with Twitter in 2010 at a time when the social network was really hitting its stride.
Gnip is one of the largest providers of social data, and first partnered with Twitter in 2010 at a time when the social network was really hitting its stride.
To date, Gnip has delivered over an astounding 2.3 trillion tweets to its customers spread across 42 different countries.
“We believe Gnip has only begun to scratch the surface. Together we plan to offer more sophisticated data sets and better data enrichments, so that even more developers and businesses big and small around the world can drive innovation using the unique content that is shared on Twitter. “
The social network says it will continue providing data to Gnip’s customers, and plans on upgrading its data platform with the help of newly acquired talent.
From Gnip CEO Chris Moody:
“We’ll be able to support a broader set of use cases across a diverse set of users including brands, universities, agencies, and developers big and small. Joining Twitter also provides us access to resources and infrastructure to scale to the next level and offer new products and solutions.”
Launched in 2008, according to Gnip’s CrunchBase profile, the company delivers social data to 95 percent of the Fortune 500.
While Twitter data is one of its main staples, customers can also get plugged into Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and more.
