What do President Obama, Stephen Colbert and Wendy’s have in common? They are all the proud owners of a golden tweet. After clinching the 2012 election but before he took the stage to give his acceptance speech, President Obama sent out a simple message to his fans: Four More Years.
The message was retweeted more than 810,000 times. It was the most retweeted tweet of the year and earned President Obama his first Golden Tweet Award.

According to Twitter, Obama’s tweet became the most retweeted of the year within hours. It was the most retweeted in Twitter history by the end of the night. Obama’s “Four More Years” tweet was retweeted by people in more than 200 countries around the world.
Obama’s message was by the far the most retweeted of the year (817,263 times as of this writing). The only person to come close to the president was Justin Bieber.
The Biebs sent out this message on Septermber 26, 2012: “RIP Avalanna. i love you.”
The pop singer was referring to Avalanna Routh,a 6-year-old girl who passed away from a rare form of brain cancer. Routh was a major Bieber fan and the Canadian singer became spent some time with the little girl before her passing.

Twitter started handing out its Golden Tweets in 2010. Stephen Colbert was the first person to win the award with a tweet about the Gulf oil spill in 2012.

Wendy’s won the following year with a charitable effort. Wendy’s donated $0.50 to help foster kids during its Tweet it Forward campaign.
