A Timelapse of the Winter Solstice in Alaska (Shortest Day of the Year)


A winter solstice, by definition, is ” an astronomical phenomenon marking the day with the shortest period of daylight and the longest night of the year.”

Fairbanks, Alaska is the northernmost city on any world map you see.  A secluded yet beautiful place, it is also home to the shortest day of the year (in all the world) due to its geographical placement.

During the winter solstice, as the following timelapse will show you, the length of the day based around daylight is so short it can be squeezed into a one minute video:

Seeing things like that just kind of leave you breathless. Thanks anyway, Alaska, but my cold nights are already long enough (but damn, that does look pretty).
