Artur Samarin is a twenty-three year old Ukrainian man who faked his name and age in order to attend high school in PA and made headlines a few months ago when he was arrested. For having sex with an underage girl. He attended John Harris High School in Pennsylvania for three years, from September 2012 through December 2015 under the alias Asher Potts. Police say that Samarin had overstayed his visa and the plot to play a high school student was hatched out of desperation.

Artur Samarin was in the top of his class, a 4.1 GPA and a member of the National Honor Society but he’s been behind bars for the past few months. Today he plead guilty to a number of charges included sex charges that carry up to 40 years in prison. The sex charges were not initially revealed and though he was still technically a criminal for a case of identity fraud, he was only a laughable one. What kid wants to do high school twice? But when the allegations arose that Samarin had been having sex with a 15-year-old girl, things took on a darker turn.
BREAKING: judge dismisses identity theft charge against Artur Samarin filed in Swatara Twp @CBS21NEWS

When the sex charges were revealed, the judge dismissed the identity theft charges. Presumably this was done with the intent to prosecute Samarin for the sex charges. There are some questions over whether Samarin’s case may have wider reaching implications. While posing as a high school student he successfully faked a social security card and did enough to go undercover for three years in American society. That has unsettled a few people who believe that this exposes the cracks in social security administration.
