A Ohio teenager is screaming Instagram censorship after the popular picture sharing site deleted pictures she had posted of herself.
19 year old Samm Newman claims that her Instagram account was shut down after she posted pictures of herself wearing nothing more than underwear.
Newmann is a US size 24, or suffice as to say is….large, and is claiming she was targeted due to her weight.
“My Instagram, it was my safe place because when I was there, I could share anything” Newman told local media.
“Fat is not a bad word,” she says. “How confident can you be if you keep censoring yourself because people don’t want to look at you? I didn’t find [the underwear] or the bra at all inappropriate. They covered me entirely and I’ve seen pictures like that all over Instagram.”
Instagram has since reinstated the account, and while apologizing and saying the decision was wrong, they noted that the account had been shut due to frequent complaints from other users.
“When our team processes reports from other members of the Instagram community, we occasionally make a mistake,” Instagram said in a statement. “In this case, we wrongly removed an account and worked to rectify the error as soon as we were notified. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
But that’s not good enough for Newman.
“I would like an answer myself as to why so many other photos on other accounts are still up,” Newman told FoxNews.com. “The problem is Instagram silencing anyone who doesn’t fit their agenda.”
