This may be the best job ever! (Well, except this one). A man in Wisconsin is using his love of cats and napping for a good cause.
75-year-old Terry Lauerman visits his local animal shelter in Green Bay daily to have a snooze alongside the felines.
However, that wasn’t his plan to begin with. Terry walked into the Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary six months ago with the aim of helping to groom the kitties.
Founder Elizabeth Feldhausen told the HuffPost: “He just walked in and started brushing.
“So eventually we told him he was an official volunteer and had him fill out our volunteer form.”
Terry visits the cage-free sanctuary – which rescues disabled cats that would be put down in other shelters – every day and hangs out with his buds for a few hours.
But while grooming his furry friends, Terry has a tendancy to doze off.
“[He sleeps for] about an hour, then he’ll wake up and switch cats,” explains Elizabeth.
Unfortunately, the job is unpaid, but Terry doesn’t seem to mind. In fact, the sanctuary were so touched by Terry’s dedication to the animals, they made a Facebook post thanking him.
“We are so lucky to have a human like Terry,” Safe Haven wrote.
“Terry just came along one day and introduced himself. He said he’d like to brush cats. Eventually, it became everyday.
“He brushes all of the cats, and can tell you about all of their likes and dislikes. He also accidentally falls asleep most days.
“We don’t mind – Cats need this! Terry is a wonderful volunteer.”
The post has since garnered 65K likes and has been shared over 17,000 times.
When staff told Terry about his new-found social media fame, he didn’t quite get it, but says he hopes it will bring in more donations to Safe Haven.
Apparently, his response was: “If all of those people would just donate $5 to help the kitties, that would make such a big difference!
“He also said we should all pray for him to win the lottery so he can donate it to his cat friends,” the team added.
