Social media isn’t all fun and games, 20-year-old former college student Caleb Clemmons recently learned.
On February 8, 2013, Caleb posted this message to his Tumblr:
Hello. my name is irenigg and i plan on shooting up georgia southern. pass this around to see the affect it has. to see if i get arrested.
A simple joke in Caleb’s mind, he bit off more than he could chew, and was arrested just three hours later.
Today, Caleb finally faced a judge, and pleaded guilty to “making terroristic threats.” While he will be released today after spending over six months in jail, Caleb was sentenced to five years probation.
During those five years, he is not allowed to use social media, and banned from four counties in Georgia, one of which that is home to the college he joked about “shooting up.”
Posting such things, even in a joking manner, are never taken lightly by authorities, and can carry serious consequences as evidenced by this case.
Back in May, an 18-year-old served one month in jail after posting some of his own rap lyrics that referenced the Boston Bombings.
