Twitter users have always been able to delete their tweets, and a new tool called Spirit allows you to automatically delete your tweets after a set period of time.
Created by developer Pierre Legrain, once users have Spirit setup, they simply add a hashtag to their tweet for how long it should appear.
For example, tagging your tweet with #5m would have it automatically delete after five minutes, #1d would have it last one day, and so on.
However, just like with Snapchat, there is no way of preventing someone from taking a screenshot, and sharing it with the world.
To add the ability to self-destruct your tweets, first go to the Spirit for Twitter website.
Once there, click the white “Enable Spirit” button, and you will be redirected to Twitter where you have to authorize the app.
Simply click “Sign In,” and you now have the ability to have your tweets automatically delete after a set period of time.
Spirit for Twitter works by the minute (m), hour (h) or by day (d), and it works no matter where you place the hashtag in your tweet.
