Social Predictions For 2014 Include ‘Context,’ ‘Visual Storytelling’

As the Christmas glitter dust clears, everyone is looking to predictions for 2014 — and what informs our global view more than social media?

The lens of social allows for prognostication and predictions — for 2014, it looks to be a number of trends will hit their “tipping points” and become more a habit than a novelty, if they bear out.

Entrepreneur looked at 2014’s possibilities in social, where much of general trending activity seems to germinate … and more importantly, tip. After all, how many times did something gain traction on your radar because it kept popping up in your Facebook feed?

According to their predictions for 2014, context will be the new content, as in “content is king.” Which is an idea well past its time already, as we all understand too well the pitfalls of a social trend, meme, or outrage without necessary context. (Will we learn our lessons in 2014?)

For the scope of the piece, the business mag opines:

“But for 2014, I think the need to put out more content will become less important, in favor of focusing on and creating content that’s contextually relevant to the social channels you’re using.”

Read: quit trying to make fetch happen with Twitter clickthroughs.

If you haven’t yet, 2014 may be the year you grab a Vine and swing — the platform is one Entrepreneur believes is on track to gain a true foothold:

“Platforms like Twitter’s Vine app and Instagram’s 15-second video make it incredibly easy to create and share this short-form content so take the time to not only understand how to use these platforms but also how users consume content on them.”

As always, Google+ is a prediction for 2014 — but it also seems we’ve long been warned to keep an eye on the still segmented service. What do you think will be big on social sites in 2014?
