Shippers UPS and FedEx are blowing up social media this week — and not in a good way, alas.
It seems all your last minute, sent from my iPad purchases overwhelmed the guys in brown, and as promised packages failed to arrive, the social web went wild ragging on UPS and FedEx for dicking everyone over on Christmas.
Across Twitter, individual revelers are posting 140 character tales of woe, and “arrives by December 24” appeared to be somewhat of a Great Pumpkin situation in 2013:
#UPS truck is almost late again.Guaranteed by ChristmasEve didnt show.@SteveMillerROCK I delayed our gift exchange.I hear its worth it ;o)

Some had at least partially pleasant experiences:
UPS may be overloaded and responsible but #Amazon just extended my prime membership for the delays by #UPS. This is why I shop Amazon.

Others were beyond frustrated:
WTH @UPS @UPSHelp? Xmas cards “proof of delivery” forward-dated 22 hours? Are you prescient or something? pic.twitter.com/oBhkH33BXy

Today consists of more correspondence with @UPS after the “overnight” delivery was still not delivered with the rest of packages.

Customers bristled at the “procrastination” excuse lobbed by package services like UPS:
No thx to @Kohls @ups for the delay in getting a xmas gift delivered on time (and it wasn’t ordered at the last minute!) #UPSFAIL

Not everyone was totally pissed, though:
You know, I kind of love this. “We tried, we failed, we’re sorry.” Straightforward, no BS copy. Good on ya, @UPS. pic.twitter.com/mt0gl30Ec6

Even the shipper itself joined the fray:
[SERVICE UPDATE] We experienced heavy holiday volume making every effort to get packages to their destination: https://t.co/i2tlqsedMr

Were you part of the UPS Twitter complaint army this year, or did all your stuff arrive on time?
