Snapchat on Thursday rolled out video messaging for the Google Android platform. Snapchat is a messaging system that deletes user messages after they have been viewed.
The company says it has been beta testing the video messaging system with Android users in Europe. The Snapchat video messaging service originally rolled out for Apple iOS users in late 2012.
In a company statement for the Android release of its video messaging platform Snapchat revealed:
“Making Snapchat video for Android has been exciting, but has also had its fair share of challenges. The Android phones that many of us use were never designed with Snapchat in mind, and that can be tough when developing a hardware-based application.”
While Google’s Android OS runs on thousands of devices Snapchat does warn that some devices may experience less than stellar performance.
Snapchat current has a “medium maturity ranking in the Google Play store thanks to its “suggestive themes” based around its sexting appeal.
Just like its other platform offerings users can set a “destroy” time for video messages that can last for up to 10 seconds after they complete playing.
Snapchat for Android version 2.0 can be downloaded for free via the Google Play app market.
