At the time of this post Sesame Street has racked up 980,907,005 YouTube views. Now the not-for-profit children’s show is racing towards becoming the first nonprofit to pass 1 billion views.
Sesame Streets very own Telly appeared in a video this week to tell fans of the show that a “top secret video” would debut once 1 billion views was achieved.
Speaking to the Associated Press Terry Fitzpatrick, executive vice president of content and distribution for Sesame Workshop said:
“It blows me away to think about how popular and strong a platform (YouTube) has become for us.”
The Sesame Street YouTube channel has become a huge hit thanks to the shows ability to attract big named actors and its spoofs of Downton Abbey and other popular shows and pop cultural events.
Telly Monster in the recently released video is scrolling through videos on the shows YouTube channel and then proclaims:
“It’s a top secret video! I have to watch a top secret video!”
Once Telly finds the video it says:
“ACCESS DENIED. This Sesame Street video is currently unavailable. It cannot be accessed until the Sesame Street Channel has reached 1,000,000,000 views.”
Sesame Street has given no clues as to the nature of the “top secret video” at this time.
If you look at the bottom of the video you will see a ticker which shows the total percentage completed for one billion pageviews.
