Evidently, placing what remains of your Xmas dinner in tin foil and sticking it into the fridge could actually embody something of a risk to your health.
As fast as it came, it departed even faster. After what seems like months of accretion, Christmas is officially done. That just leaves us with undesired Xmas pullovers, hangovers, and leftovers.
It’s the leftovers, however, that we need to chat about. Reportedly, wrapping your leftovers in tin foil and placing it in the refrigerator could in fact induce health problems.
You’d think not, because people have been doing precisely that for as long as aluminum foil has been around, however scientists feel that there are much more efficient ways of storing what remains after the festive fete.
Thing is, if you cover your leftovers in tin foil, you are not totally covering it. Meaning that some air will get in, which widens the door to bacteria burgeoning. And you don’t want to get bedridden for New Year’s Eve now, do you?
“When air is present, that allows the bacteria to grow faster, so you really want to get the right containers and pack things appropriately otherwise, your food isn’t going to last,” said Lindsay Malone, a dietitian at the Cleveland Clinic.
Hmm, what are we supposed to utilize as an alternative than? Ostensibly, the best things for the task are shallow air-tight containers. What they do is keep all the air out so bacteria can’t grown and thrive; they too help cool the food down (which is necessary before you place it in the fridge).
