Robin Williams Tributes Flood The Internet After Actor’s Death

The internet has been flooded with tributes to Robin Williams since the actor’s tragic death yesterday. His movies have been trending all day on Twitter, celebrities have been posting messages of remembrances, and one joke from The Watchmen has gone viral in the wake of the comedian’s passing.

One of the most touching tributes came from Norm MacDonald. The actor shared a story on Twitter about the first time he met the actor.

MacDonald says that he was talking to a friend on the phone before his first appearance on Letterman when Robin Williams (AKA the funniest man in the world) walked into the dressing room. Williams didn’t introduce himself or wish MacDonald luck. Instead, he pretended that he was a tailor and started fitting MacDonald for a suit.

Another touching tribute came from his Hook co-star Dante Williams (AKA Rufio).

Rufio writes: “I was lucky to work with him as an actor and witness first hand the magic of what made him a legend, the wit and other worldly improv skills. As well as see him single handedly put the morale of a movie set, easily hundreds of people, on his shoulders and kept everyone laughing as they worked long hours for what seemed like months on end …

“With “Hook” and so many other films, I, like millions of others became a fan and was always delightfully surprised by the performances he managed to produce, but with his passing, I can’t help to feel, along with my generation… I can’t help feeling like it’s the death of my childhood. I guess we can’t stay in Neverland forever, we must all grown up.”

Reading all of the tributes to Robin Williams has made one thing very clear: He was just as kind as he was talanted.

His Good Will Hunting co-star Ben Affleck writes: “Heartbroken. Thanks chief – for your friendship and for what you gave the world. Robin had a ton of love in him. He personally did so much for so many people. He made Matt and my dreams come true. What do you owe a guy who does that? Everything.”

Nathan Lane, who co-starred in the movie The Bird Cage also shared some sweet thoughts about his late friend.

Lane said: I feel I have to say something more than just “heartbreaking and shocking” which everyone has said and I feel as well, but something a little more personal. Thus the following: One day in 1995 while riffing in the character of a snobby French toy store owner, Robin made me laugh so hard and so long that I cried. It seemed to please him to no end. Yesterday I cried again at the thought that he was gone. What I will always remember about Robin, perhaps even more than his comic genius, extraordinary talent, and astounding intellect, was his huge heart — his tremendous kindness, generosity, and compassion as an acting partner, colleague, and fellow traveler in a difficult world. My heartfelt condolences to his wife and family.”

Some of Williams’ friends were just too emotional for words.

A countless number of co-stars, actors, celebrities, and fans have also shared stories about Robin Williams in the wake of his death. But perhaps the most poignant comes from his daughter, Zelda.

Zelda shared a passage from the book “The Little Prince” on Instagram.

Zelda writes: “You – you alone will have the stars as no one else has them… In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night… You – only you – will have the stars that can laugh.”

She ended her message with: “I love you. I miss you. I’ll try to keep looking up. Z.”

Robin Williams death has also reminded several people about the story of Paciaggi the clown. Originally an opera, the story was shortened to a small anectdote in the comic book The Watchmen.

Here’s the passage from the comic book: “Man goes to doctor. Says he’s depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says, “Treatment is simple. Great clown, Pagliacci, is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up.” Man bursts into tears. Says, “But doctor, I am Pagliacci.”
