Rise Of The Tomb Raider will hit stores during the holiday season in 2015 but you’ll need an Xbox One to play it.

According to Forbes, the latest installment in the Tomb Raider series was expected to be released on several platforms like PS4. Darrell Gallagher, head of Crystal Dynamics, cleared that up today at ComesCom. Gallagher said that Rise Of The Tomb Raider would be an exclusive on Xbox One.

A message on the Tomb Raider blog, reads: “Our friends at Microsoft have always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and have believed in our vision since our first unveil with them on their stage at E3 2011. We know they will get behind this game more than any support we have had from them in the past – we believe this will be a step to really forging the Tomb Raider brand as one of the biggest in gaming, with the help, belief and backing of a major partner like Microsoft.”

Rise of the Tomb Raider will be an exclusive for Xbox One but that doesn’t mean that PC and PS4 players will never see a new Lara Croft game.

The message continues: “This doesn’t mean that we’re walking away from our fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC. Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities. We have Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris coming to those platforms this December, and Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition is available on PS4.”

Still, the announcement had many people angry on Twitter.

Sales for the Xbox One still lag behind its competitors but this exclusive release could give Microsoft a big boost. Of course, it could backfire and kill sales of the new Tomb Raider game.

What do you think of the decision to release The Rise Of Tomb Raider exclusively from Xbox One.
