On a post that was recently made in the r/AskReddit subreddit, a user asked the community, “What popular life advice do you disagree with?” Within half a day, this post garnered over 25 thousand upvotes. Needless to say, the comments are full of gems.
The top comment, coming from the user u/BowmanTheShowman, got real about having to change for other people when talking about the statement “Never change for anybody.”
“The problem with that advice is that change is a natural part of life, and it’s inevitable when you meet someone you’re going to be with long term,” the Redditor said. “I’ve changed a ton since I met my husband, and he has too. But we’ve changed for the better. It’s a good thing.”
In response to someone saying that “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day of your life” is baloney, another user replied that it’s because “no one is hiring space cowboys.”
Another user disagrees with the statement “live each day as if it’s your last.” Plenty of people seem to agree with them, with someone else saying that it would probably leave them broke and dead.
Someone also noted how some statements seem to contradict each other, with “absence makes the heart grow fonder” and “out of sight, out of mind” both being popular statements but being completely different from each other.
