After being asked about his sexuality via social media, R. Kelly’s son Jay has announced he is a transgender teenager. Jay Kelly, 13, revealed he was born a female and was orginally named Jaya by his parents, television personality Drea Kelly and well-know singer R. Kelly.

Born in June of 2001, Jay slowly started to identify with the male pronouns around the age of 7 years old. Now, Jay has asked to only be called Jay. letting go of Jaya. This announcement was through his Ask.fm account.

“I believe I am a boy, and want surgery, and the medication to help me be who I was supposed to be,” Jay said on his site. “Being transgender, knowing that your a transgender, is not a phase. It’s like once you read about it and know that’s exactly how you feel, there’s no going back. It’s not a choice, it’s just a part of life.”

His father has yet to publicly comment on this brave announcement. But Jay’s mother and sister have been extremely supportive.

“[My mom] was like, ‘Baby, you know I love you if you were bi, gay, [lesbian], you name it and I would still love you so much. She was very proud of me, I was like, ‘Thank you mum for accepting the fact that I’m a transgender.’

And same with my sister, she told me that she was proud of me, and respects me by calling me handsome and calling me her little brother now, and I love her for that, so you know it was great for me.” (InTouch Weekly reported)
