Pinterest is preparing to launch a new product called “Related Pins.” Currently the social sharing platform is testing the new feature with a small group of users. The new related pins will be featured in the users home feed and look very similar to pins. The related pins will be closely tied into posts that you have already saved or liked across the Pinterest platform.
For example, if you have created a board based around vintage Halloween costumes, there is a good chance Pinterest will recommend other pins that you have yet to view or pin to your wall.
The social sharing platform plans to start “slowly” with the program to ensure that a users Pinterest home feed is not overpopulated with a product they may not enjoy. According to Pinterest the related pins offering will begin with “just a few pins” to test its efficacy.
Pinterest is including a ratings system for each recommendation. To rate a suggested pin users can hit the info icon in the bottom right corner of the pin and then give each suggestion the thumbs up or thumbs down. As Pinterest learns what you enjoy and want removed your feed will become more personalized. Think of it as a Pandora Music system for your home feed.
