Facebook may still be the social sharing king, but according to new data from Gigya, Pinterest and Twitter saw combined growth of 10 percent.
Consumer management company Gigya analyzed data for Q3 2013 collected from July to September, and here were the results:
- Facebook – 41 percent
- Twitter – 30 percent
- Pinterest – 20 percent
- LinkedIn – 4 percent
- Google+ – 3 percent
- Other – 2 percent
Facebook saw a nine percent decrease from Q2 2013 while Pinterest saw a four percent increase, and Twitter saw a six percent increase.
Pinterest came out ahead of Facebook in terms of social sharing in the e-commerce industry, partially due to launching its API last month.
- Pinterest – 44 percent
- Facebook – 37 percent
- Twitter – 12 percent
- Other – 4 percent
- Google+ – 3 percent
However, across media/publishing websites, Facebook is still number one:
- Facebook – 40 percent
- Twitter – 30 percent
- Pinterest – 20 percent
- LinkedIn – 5 percent
- Google+ – 3 percent
- Other – 2 percent
In other industries, Facebook’s dominance is even more pronounced with its share above 60 percent for travel/hospitality, and education/non-profits.
In the United States, Pinterest is just behind Facebook at 29 percent, and here’s how Facebook leads social sharing in other countries:
- South America – 67 percent
- Europe – 47 percent
- Africa/Middle East – 45 percent
- Asia/Pacific – 60 percent
In Europe, Russian social network Vkontakte came in at two percent, and in the Asia/Pacific region, Japan’s Mixi accounted for four percent of social sharing.
Although Pinterest and Twitter continue to grow in social sharing, Facebook also continues its reign as the world’s largest social network.
