One Nantucket photographer has captured a one of a kind winter sight, nearly frozen tidal waves.

This winter has been harsh in many areas. We’ve seen record-breaking snowfall, blizzards and other winter weather extremes, but these pictures show something only seen by a few.

The photographer, Jonathan Nimerfroh was on a casual walk on the island of Nantucket when he noticed the unusual tidal waves. The water was so full of ice and in a nearly frozen state, creating a breathtaking image.

Nimerfroh shared his photos with CBS Boston, WBZ-TV chief meteorologist, Eric Fisher.

Fisher found the pictures interesting and shared what he thought the waves looked like to him.
