A pig’s owner was mortified after her 400 lb pet, named Princess, was slaughtered by a neighbor after she came up missing.

Princess had escaped her pen at master Carrie Hogan’s mom’s house in Arcata, California. She elected to roam around the area and was noticed in a neighbor’s yard by law enforcement who asked the home owner to keep an eye on the pig while they tried to find her owner. The man agreed to babysit Princess – who was donning no I.D. tags – but merely an hour later, when the cops returned, he had diced her up for meat. Chief Brian Ahearn of the Arcata Police Department honored the pact they formed with the man, stating that they had formulated a ‘reasonable arrangement’.
He told the local reporters: “We were totally shocked and surprised to learn that the pig had been slaughtered. There was no reason to believe that that individual was going to do that.” APD Lt, Todd Dockweiler, then clarified: “Believe it or not, that’s not a super uncommon call for us. Obviously that was a bit of a shock to everyone involved. Given the stage of the butchering process he was in, he must have slaughtered the pig very shortly after the officer left. It’s just a really bizarre case,” he furthered. “It’s just not clear what the thought process was. He obviously knew the pig didn’t belong to him and he didn’t have the right to slaughter it.”
Princess’ owner expressed she was irate that the police permitted a stranger to watch over her pet, adding: “He took it upon himself to give my animal away. And then it got butchered.” Carrie’s mother confronted the neighborhood as he was still slicing up the pig but he emphasized she had ‘no right to be on this property’, accordant to Carrie. The family are battling now to retrieve Princess’ meat. She doesn’t plan to eat her former pet, however doesn’t want anybody else to either.
