Celebrity chef Paula Deen has scored an unlikely/likely/I-don’t-know ally in actress Stacey Dash, who inspired bitter criticism in late 2012 for her public endorsement of then-presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
Twitter reacted to Dash’s defense of the comfort-food chef with almost the exact same measure of ire.
God does everything for a reason @Paula_Deen Only God can judge your heart BTW my daughter loves your show (only way she can get me to cook)
— Stacey Dash (@REALStaceyDash) June 25, 2013
And now for the backlash:
man you really are Clueless huh RT @REALStaceyDash God does everything for a reason @Paula_Deen Only God can judge your heart
— Mr TallDark-Handsome (@RocStarNYC) June 25, 2013
@REALStaceyDash @Paula_Deen omg stop you’re a fucking idiot — Denise Handicap (@drcorton) June 25, 2013
@REALStaceyDash first MITT Romney and now this, I don’t even like you no more. You a hoe. — Daj’ (@KingSuperCool_) June 25, 2013
Wanna be cast as a slave at her next event? Since you’re showing support and all…. @REALStaceyDash @Paula_Deen — Countess Chocula (@scratch_paper) June 25, 2013
@scratch_paper man @REALStaceyDash really does act like a house negro. — Reeta, NFL Goddess (@theNFLchick) June 25, 2013
Dash has garnered some support, however:
I don’t know why @REALStaceyDash is getting so much backlash. She didn’t tweet anything wrong. — Charm (@CharMyLife) June 25, 2013
@REALStaceyDash Agreed…
— Carmen Lovelace (@CarmenLovelace) June 25, 2013
But it’s all pretty much racially-charged criticism:
@kingsleyyy @REALStaceyDash I’m revoking her black card. SHUT UP STACEY.
— Ari Sperling (@XOXOAri_) June 25, 2013
.@REALStaceyDash You are the female version of Stephen played by @SamuelLJackson in Django Unchained.
— [ˈandərsən ] (@TheReelAnderson) June 25, 2013
Dear @REALStaceyDash Those niggers that @Paula_Deen was referring to include your black ass… You do realize that, right?
— tha Lady Blogga (@LadyBlogga) June 25, 2013
Dash has become notorious lately for a number of meek political tweets. Her endorsement for Mitt Romney in 2012 resulted in vulgarity and death threats, and her criticism of Jay-Z and Beyonce’s Cuba trip inspired racial epithets and all manner of nastiness.
It’s up to you to decide, folks. But whether Stacey Dash’s defense of Paula Deen constitutes compassion or ignorance, it’d be nice to see more of the former from those responding.
