Oscar Mayer Dives On #Whaling Trend With Wienermobile Vines [Video]

hotdoggers take on #whaling meme

Businesses and brands frequently capitalize on viral memes to mixed success, but what’s the harm in a little #whaling between Oscar Mayer’s Wienermobile team?

The Wienermobile drivers (called “Hotdoggers”) are doing just that lately, capturing Vines of themselves #whaling in front of, on top of, and all around the iconic Oscar Mayer meat wagon during various pit-stops around the country.

“The weirder the better,” an Oscar Mayer brand rep told SND. “That’s exactly what makes #whaling so oddly captivating.”

For those of you in the cheap seats, #whaling is the heir to various social trends like #planking and #owling, and as we suggested in a previous post, these kinds of trends generally pick up steam until someone dies.

While Oscar Mayer is well aware of the risks associated with viral memes like #whaling, their rep assured me that no Hotdoggers were harmed during the making of this Vine.

Check out the Wienermobile team’s #whaling Vine below, and let us know what you think. Brand fail, or clever co-opt of a popular Vine meme? Sound off!
