‘Orange Is The New Black’ Is Most Watched Show In Netflix History

Orange is the New Black

Sorry Ax-Men and Cheerleader Ninja fans, your shows and movies have nothing on Orange is the New Black. The prison dramedy has been named as the streaming video services most watched show of all-time.

News of the shows success was posted in the company’s third-quarter financial letter which was signed by CEO Reed Hastings and CFO David Wells. In the letter the company’s leaders write that Orange Is the New Black “will end the year as our most-watched original series ever and, as with each of our other previously launched originals, enjoys an audience comparable with successful shows on cable and broadcast TV.”

The show, a critical and viewer hit, beats out Netflix’s other well-received series House Of Cards, which stars Hollywood heavyweight Kevin Spacey.

House of Cards premiered in February and made history by becoming the first web-only series to win an Emmys. The show walked away with the award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama.

“Orange Is the New Black was not eligible for the Emmys in 2013, but Season 1 will be eligible next year and we believe the audience for Season 2 will grow substantially,” Netflix’s letter says.

Netflix is revving up for a huge 2014 with a new series from the creator of Damages and new animated series’ from DreamWorks. Also returning are House of Cards, Orange Is the New Black, Hemlock Grove and Derek.
